U-552 back on the bench!

After almost 3 years of being abandoned on top of the wardrobe it is back on the bench now.
My first big, and safe to say longest running, and most complex project was screaming at me to be completed.
So it is time.

Wireing done, need to weather the lines still.
Then i can have some more fun with oils, and pigments. Deffo need to lighten and saltt below the waterline, and run some rust above the waterline.

Weathering of waterline stage 1. Fading the paint.

Weathering stage 4- waterline, and rusty streaking:

Weathering stage 5- exhaust stains, and more rust:

  1. That looks excellent! I like the weathering effect you have on the lower half of the hull (is that the right terminology?) and am trying figure out how you achieved it. I've also been admiring that rather handsome display case!

    1. The fading below the waterline was achieved by flicking the stiff brush loaded with highly diluted white oil paint and lighter fluid. It dries very quick creating the darker boarder like outline. Normally it isn't good thing, because it leaves the stains- in this case was perfect. Hope it helps.
The case is hand built. I paid the glass guy 60£ to make the dome, and my friend made the wooden base for it. I got the devil badge, and the submarine crest from E-bay.
